Are you talking about new series? If not, AMD just released a new FX series processore the FX-60 Dual Core. Priced at around $1000 bucks usd.

im talking about the .65nm core or something like that intel released there .65 ones.

there's rumours that amd may release their 65nm cpus when they switch over to socket am2 in the 2nd quarter but these are unconfirmed. either way amd still run cooler than intel at 90nm and the performance (for now) is higher

ok thanks. so should i wait for the new am2 to come out or not and when is the second quarter.

well 65nm might not come out with the release of socket am2 but it will be on that platform eventually... its up to you whether you can wait for 65nm or not... the difference wont be that big straight away in my opinion. 2nd quarter is in the period of april - june

At the risk of sounding like a complete fool, what is the complete difference between the 90nm and the 65nm CPU's?

But will there be that big of a difference? And I heard that there will be a socket "f" that will be released after AM2? Gah... I can't keep up with technology money wise...:(

well the only real difference is that they will be switching over to ddr2... a more signifcant speed boost will be further down the line in my opinion.
socket F has something like 1207 pins and is therefore not compatible with socket am2 as it only had 940 pins (but isn't compatible with current socket 940 technology).
socket F will only be released for server chips, however i can see this being used for desktop computers in the future.
i intend to switch to socket am2 when i can afford to

Haha should I switch when AM2 comes out? Becuase I want to get the new technology the fastest I can that way I can have the "newer" tech before another thing comes out. Do get what I'm saying?

How long will AM2 last anyway?

Thanks. To me as long as I have the latest socket I don't care. Sockets last like 2+ years right? That's good time to me, considering I will upgrade every 2 years anyway.

so april-june of 2006 the new am2 will come out? do you think they are going to cost alot more than 939 socket boards? and what about the price of the processors themselves?, what are the differences going to be, only DDR2 RAM? is there a review online of this new am2 board?

are you kidding me? yea, theyre probably going to be wicked expensive. i think AMDs newest hard hitter is on newegg for like 1400, 1500? there are lots of reviews everywhere, magazines, newspapers, online...everybodys pretty much talking about them. the one thing that may confuse a lot of people is the socket. although it is 940-pin, it isnt the current configuration, so the motherboards/cpus are not interchangeable. but im sure you already knew that from the number of posts and threads on this topic.

Who says that the AMD 90nm chips run cooler than the Intel Core Duo 65nm chips, have you ever used one?

if you read the reviews you would see that intel still have a higher running temperature than amd, although it is slightly reduced

ok wait a second.

Arguing that 90nm, vs 90nm AMD's run cooler
or 90nm(AMD) vs 65nm(Intel)

cause if its the latter, I'd like a link to the review...

basically, get a 939 system for now. rumor has it the chips will produce even less heat for the speed they produce, and the sockets will produce even more heat because of more power usage (speaking AMD M2)

intel has plans for a yonah chip though, pentium M continued in desktops! make that dual core, increase clock speed + fsb speed, it will outperform any athlon 64 chip! (even FX!)
