When REapplying thermal paste..

I think i jiggled my heat sink a little bc my idol temp went up dramatically for no reason. I was given the suggest to reapply thermal paste.

Before that is done, is there any procedure that needs to happen to the old thermal compound? Should that be removed somehow, or should i just remove the HS & F and then reapply paste then attach HS & F???

Help, thanks.

wipe it off with tissue, many would recommened something like rubbing alcohol or something, but ive yet to see why just wiping it with a tissue is a problem

I'd be reluctant to put any liquids in an around my processor. When I changed my fan out, I just wiped it down with a paper towel real well. Get the silver thermal paste, that stuff is awesome.

Oh btw. If you don't already know, you want a nice even thin layer. I had a friend that put WAY too much on and it oozed off the side of the processor and shorted the board. Don't make his mistake haha. Just a heads up.

use rubbing alcohol, rubbing it with a tissue won't get it all off and might leave fibers from the tissue behind. Rubbing alcohol take it right off, like a hot knife through butter ;)
