When to update driver.

Should you update the driver for a device if that device is working perfectly.

My touchpad is OK, but HP tells me there is a new driver for it. Should I bother to download and install it and risk something going wrong. Or should I just ignore new drivers until things stop working right.

for peripherals like that you dont really need to but its really your choice. If its running fine with no problems then no you dont need to.

yeh Dean11 is right if the device is working fine then there is no need to update, it is only necessary when u fiind a problem then the update will most likely fix it then

I went ahead and downloaded the new driver and installed it, and a funny thing happened. One game that had been running slugishly started acting normally - I'm talking about the graphics. Maybe it had something to do with the mouse device (though it has a different driver), but I think the download had more than just a touchpad update. It probably had a bunch of other fixes, too. I say this because the file came from OM and it was 8MB in size! That's kinda big for a lousy touchpad driver, isn't it?

So, if you trust the source, it can be a good idea to update your driver even when that device is (or seems to be) working OK.
