hi my HDD has only 8.13 gigs left outta 66.3 but before i reinstalled windows i had like 23.3 gigs left and i even deleted some files after the reinstallation (put most files back on with external hdd)

What happened to all my space program files is only 35.6 and thats with the hidden folders showin and yhe other folders i checked and not even close to another 30 gigs so wtf????? help me plz

try - doing a disk clean up:

Start > Programs > Accessories > System > Disk Clean Up

This is for Windows XP. :)

No need to bump so much
What probably happened was you were given more space when you first got the hard drive, and when you reinstalled, something probably happened to where something took space to create and used a little more room then the first time.

If your that conscience about space, you may want to consider buying a bigger hard drive.

for the post above. I do not know what those are so if you could explain would be highly appreciated. And i did buy an external hd for more space so i moved virtually everything over there. But it has less space then before whats the deal?? i took off like 14GB of stuff and i still have just 10 gig of ram omfg.

and also took away a few games thats alot of space deleted from it. Might i have a virus?? i ran spybot , nod32 , adaware and did cc cleaner... and nothing came up

When you reinstalled mate you might have made your partition with windows on smaller than the original one (before the reinstall) therefore you still have the hard drive space, but your not using it.

I think you should still be able to create another partition (without deleting your main one), but it'll show up in windows as another HDD.

I dunno man its happened to me a few times. I've removed programs and files and then once I reboot the space is more but not as much as I have deleted. I've been down to 500MB from a a 20GB HDD, I know 20 is not that much but comeone its still a bit.

Chaech for the HDD Jumper pins. I think it has been wrong configured. Have a check at the jumper pins.

Ignore this post mate, total bollocks unless you took the H/D out for a picnic while you were reinstalling.

You have an external hard disk? Great. Copy everything you need that can't be reinstalled (emails, word docs, pics, vids, mp3's etc...) to the external drive.

Then put up from the windows disk and wipe the entire drive. Install windows fresh, couple of drivers, couple of hours, done.

If in doubt, start again. Never done me wrong! Windows can be useless once it gets into a mess...

I bet he resintalled, and left the old OS on the computer..

is it vista your using?

because my upgrade disk keeps all the old files-music etc and ive got to manualy delete them!!!

or if your using "XP"
you could follow these steps----\/

go into
cotrol panel
adminitsrative tools
computer manegment
storage
then disk management

you should get to the screen where it tells you the info on your drives!

how many sections is your drive c: cut into?
how much unallocated space?

post back and tell me all it says

What? Maybe 20 years ago that may affect a HD......

What version of windows are you running?

if he goes through administrative tools like i say you will get the information you need!

if your hard drive has mor than 1 partition it will show up if not then there is a different problem.

need to establish that first, then fault find else where

i think that what has happen is that he has installed a lot of progreams and when he uninstalls them the files are not removed so it has caused it to take up a lot of his hrad drive space.

Try Cleaning up the Program Files.
