Where did my second hard drive go? Not listed in Windows?

I just bought a second SATA HD. It’s a 320 GB. Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 16mb HD. Its hooked up right but its not showing in Windows. It’s only showing the C drive. So where is it? I am running the first HD on the SATA0 port and the second on the SATA1 port. I have the Gygabyte 965P-DS3 mobo.

You still have to make 1 full partition, then format it, make one full partition when you boot to the xp cd, shut down, reboot normal, right click on the new harddrive in my computer and click format, Now make sure you do the right drive:D

Ok. Can I use the quick format option or does it need to be the LONG slow full format option?

If you format through the CD instead of just partitioning it, XP is going to try to install windows, Only Partition with the CD, after you partition it shut down and boot into windows normal and right click on the new drive and click format

You boot the the XP cd, pick your new drive and it will ask if you want to partition, after that pop the cd out, restart and the drive should show up in windows, right click on it and pick format

Ok I got it partitioned and I formatted it in Windows. However it shows that 73.7 MB is used on the drive yet nothing shows up when I double click the drive to look into it? I am viewing hidden files and folders yet nothing shows. Why? I didn’t put anything in there yet.

Why weren't you using the disk management mmc snap in to format? You don't need to use the XP CD to format a drive if you have windows installed.

Some space on the drive is being used, its completely normal. I believe its the file structure, file table, and a few other things.

You can use the Windows Disk manager to format it instead, it is much easier... if you havent put anything on it yet, then i would just reformat it with that.

Ummm? Because I dident know it existed?
Sorry that was meant to be directed at stranglehold, I knew you didn't know it existed or you wouldn't be asking this question :)

I wouldn't reformat if you've already done it, it'd be pointless.
