Where Do They Come From?

Why does the capacity of storage usually go up like 2,4,8,16,32,64,128,256,512, 1024,2048,4096? (I think thats right)

Think in binary. 10, 100, 1000, 10000, 100000, etc.

1 = 1
10 = 2
100 = 4
1000 = 8
10000 = 16
...
