Where has the disk space gone....

I am wondering where my disk space has gone...

I have a Laptop with a 60Gb hardisk and 2 partitions C: and D:.

When I mark all my Folders and Documents in C the data sums (properties) up to 22.5 GB. If I go to directly to C and right click it it shows me that I use 25.7 out of 26.3Gb. Why the difference of 3.2Gb?

On D: if I select all Folders and Documents it sums up to 24.8Gb. If I see the properties of D it shows me that I use 24.9Gb out of 26.5 Gb, so thats not bad.

But there is still some disk space missing: 60Gb - 26.3Gb (available disk space as properties on C says) - 26.5Gb (available disk space as properties on D says) = 7.2GB.
So where are the 7.2Gb?

Thank you a lot

While many will say that drive space is lost due to the amount of space used for system files and swap files the actual space has to be done by a math formula. You first have to multiply the number of drive cylinders by the total number of read hards. From there you would multiple that total by the number of sectors on a drive and then take that and multiply by the number of bytes per sector. That is usually 512bytes per sector.
