Hi all,
Firstly I am new to this forum and so apologise in advance if I don't get all the smaller points of etiquette first time round...!
I was wondering whether anyone could give me any help identifying where the likely bottleneck is in my system please, I have a sneaky suspicion it is the graphics card that is slowing me down but I'll wait ti hear what you guys have to say.
My problem is this: I play quite a lot of different games on my machine, from fps to flight sim to space sim etc, but I find that quite often my framerate drops to a level that is just unacceptable (less than 10 fps) making the games often unplayable. Most of the time I have the games in 1024*768 which is not the max my graphics card can support, and quite a lot of the detail settings at medium or low. Also I've found that on Counter Strike: Source, the new HDR maps which they keep introducing are very jumpy which means my favourite game is now nearly unplayable....
The specs of my machine are as follows, could I please ask for advice on what might be the best component(s) to upgrade (or perhaps its time to do a complete upgrade of the entire system?!):
Asus P4R800 VM motherboard
Intel P4 chip 2.8 Ghz (no H.T.)
1Gb RAM (budget RAM)
C: 40Gb with Windows XP SP2 installed on it 5400 rpm
D: 120Gb with all games, photos and music installed on it 7200 rpm
NVIDIA G-FORCE FX 5700 LE (128Mb)
Creative Soundblaster Audigy 4
Ummm, I think thats everything. I don't really want to spend more than £150 because then I may as well save up for a new system. All I really wany is to play games with the detail maxed and not get a jumpy game (I also play online).
Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you very much in advance
