Where should I buy a custom computer from?

Like i said before, i wouldnt buy from any of the "big ones", but dell is the lesser of the evils. As much as i hate dell as a company, (eg-microsoft has had antitrust suits against them and we still buy from them) HP, Gateway, and Acer use even lower quality stuff. Some dell's use variations of asus motherboards(albeit cheap mobos), and generally use samsung hard drives from my experience. Most dell dvd drives are built by lite-on(even though i prefer sony optiarc drives, lite-on drives are decent enough). Plus sort of off the same lines, when it comes to notebooks, dell's business class notebooks are some of the best you can get for the price.

I guess Dell is getting better as so are other company's with their hardware. Back a few years ago dell was nothing but, rubbish

Dell has been using such components for ~3 years now, although i really wouldnt suggest any pre built system until they stop using chinese power supplies and start using either FSP, CWT, Seasonic, Topower, or Enhance built units.

It might have messed up your OS but, that cannot effect hardware. In that case you just reload the OS.

thats what I meant it killed the OS (that was supposed to be a known thing didnt think I had to add it)

Regardless of parts, their customer support is something to leave you wanting. I bought a laptop from them a few years back and had some issues getting the S-Video output to work. It took me multiple multi-hour phone calls to finally get someone that even knew what the S-Video output was used for. That's just tech support. I called their normal customer support and I obsoletely cannot stand having to talk to a guy named "Bill" who's definitely from India somewhere. I ended up having to specifically ask for someone in the states so that I could understand what they were saying, and it still took me FOREVER to get my issue resolved. They just generally leave a bad taste in my mouth.
