Im looking for a Macbook to use in college and I have noticed a huge difference in pricing on the main website compared to that of others (macmall, etc.) Basically my concern is I dont want to buy one off of another website and it being an old version or something like that. How can I be sure to get the newest version of the laptop but also order it off of something besides the mac website? Also, on kind of an unrelated note... I was thinking of getting 4 gbs of ram, is that overkill for a mac considering the fact that i wont be doing any gaming or anything like that?

You can buy it from the Apple site, and if you tell them you are in college they will give you a discount. I believe you can get a MacBook for as low as $750 or so.

cheapest macbook with a student discount is still 1000 dollars. still i haven't seen any other retailers cheaper than apple with my student discount.

You're right, it's been a while since I checked and I guess they lowered the discount, last I remembered they gave a few hundred dollars off.

All you have to do is go to the Apple website, and look for the link thats for the education discount.
