the x2 3800 for socket 939 has seemingly disappeared from everywhere. this is pretty disappointing since i was planning on upgrading to the 939 x2 3800 and riding that wave for a good long while :-\

AMD stopped manufacturing them a while ago. So, online retailers won't have ordered any more, and sold out their existing stock. The only S939 processors will be those in off-the-shelf, pre-built computers, or on ebay.

Ebay.
There are some cheap X2 3800's there.

Obviously, before placing bid or buying, check it is Socket 939, and not AM2, and the seller is respectable and believable.

lol thats funny. they just manufacture a single type of processor for the socket and set a multiplier which in turn gives it a model name. some processors don't qualify for FX status though... and a lot of them they disable half the cache (4200+ vs 4400+, or 4600+ vs 4800+)

i know, but the idea, at least on my end, was to get a processor at a good price point... hence missing the 3800. i guess ill just keep my 3500+ for a couple years then get a conroe.. or something.
