hi i have just bought an asrock dual motherboard because i have a good agp graphics card but want to upgrade my processor. i have 2 questions.

which socket 939 cpu is best value at the moment am not lookin at spending over £100 on a cpu so its prolly gonna be a semperon or a amd64 3000+ i use my pc for play games over the net and the like.

secondly does any1 know whether this motherboard will take my pc2100 memory? i have tried lookin around and get get a proper answer anywere

cheers Danny

ooops just realised that the semperon is for socket 754 lol so i guess i will spend upto a bout £140. do u get a big performance gain from the 3500+ compared to the 3000+ or the 3200+ whcih are both around £100

i wuld go with the 3200 its a good budget processor. also im sure the pc2100 will work u just have to make sure its the right pin and type of memory.

Hey

Yeah socket 939 motherboards will support PC2100 RAM. However, it could (would rather) slow down the performance of the entire system. I believe that the A64 3000+ is a good candidate but if the 3200+ is not much more expensive, you could go for that instead. I would skip the Semprons alltogether (not saying that they are not good or anything). The performance increase between the 3500+ and the 3000+ should not be anything huge at all.
