I am wondering of these two which is better

Ad aware SE
or
McAfee antispyware 2005

thanks

I haven't bothered with McAfee for a llloonnnggg time now having found other and more effective tools to work with. AdAware SE Personal is one of those exceptional tools for blasting adwares along with some browser hijackers. But don't rely too heavily on any one remover. With new adwares, spywares, viruses, and other types of malwares coming out having a working familiarity with several tools is the best move.

Is that a freeware or full version of SpyBot? More and more I come across references to AdAware SE by Lavasoft as being preferred. Currently the Windows Defender beta is being given a tryout. Another one that can get good results for some spywares as well as vruses is the AVG Free Edition 7.1 which updates itself at least two or three times a week on initial startup. To get AdAware SE Personal free edition go to: http://www.majorgeeks.com/Ad-Aware_SE_Personal_d506.html where the top link of several is Lavasoft's. Or go direct to: http://www.lavasoft.com/
To give the MS beta tool Windows Defender try a download of that free at: http://www.microsoft.com/athome/security/spyware/software/default.mspx

stay away from mcafee anything it eats your resources, just use AVG as your antivirus and adaware for spyware, then go into your control panel and go to internet options then privacy and turn that up to medium high or high.

While both AVG and AdAware are great utilities they WILL NOT stop everything even with the IE settings boosted. They just don't hamper the other apps you want to run by being memory grabbers and a few other things. This is why it helps to occasionally try out other removers to be a little familiar with what they can take care of as far as "uninvited guests".

At this end SpywareBlaster, Spybot: Search+Destroy, and AVG 7.1 Free edition run along with AdAware SE Personal without issues. AdAware is the one that actually gets the bulk of actual adbots and some spybots as well. Plus I got Windows Defender added on top of all that to see how it performs.

ya Ive been trying alot but those two have been what I have put on every system, It would also be a good idea to get a firewall on there because the windows one isnt all that good

Ewido and A-squared are also great programs, both are a must have as they will catch things that spybot and adaware cant detect.
