I'm getting ready to builld my first computer, and was wondering what brand of hardrive i should get, i want in between 80 and 160 gigs, with 7200 rpm.

TONS of problems with my Maxtor 30 and 40 gigs, so I'm totally aginst them. I'm running Western Digital Raptors now, and also have a Seagate as my external drive. Both have been good so far :)

I just got a new Maxtor SATA drive that I'm pretty satisfied with (I don't know how durable it is, we'll find out in a few months ;) ). It was pretty easy to install; the program that came with it was even thorough enough to transfer all the data off've my old drive.

I will admit the Hitachi in my laptop's silent. Unfortunetly it's mad some funky noises before, but usally only when power's connected. *shrugs*

I was reading a bunch of reviews on the Hitachi Deskstars, and the "meow" noise that everybody kept reporting is actually what made me decide on that drive. But, due to circumstance, I ended up getting a Maxtor. I just think that my computer freaking out my cat would be, quite possibly, the most hilarious thing ever! She goes insane over nothing (now imagine when there's something to invoke the madness ;) )!

I had a Maxtor on my compy when I first got it, then it died after 3 years. Got a Western Digital to replace it and added a Seagate. But, pretty much any of the aforementioned 3 should be just fine...

ive had two western digital 80gbs in raid o, and theyve been fine for the year... ive pt them through a lot too!!!

On the ebuyer website, the Seagate 200GB SATA drive has a 5yr garuntee which is worth considering since its not that far off the 160GB price wise, and its SATA whch is faster!

Raptors are pretty much the nest harddrives you can get.

I tend to stick to Western Digital...just look at the warranty period and get one with a three year or better warranty.

Doesn't sound like he's looking to spend $$$ on WD Raptors. He's probably looking at the US$100 range.
