Which card

I have about 400, 500 very tops for a new card. I'm from New Zealand and found this website to be the best for my search.

Which card should I get? The Geforce 8800 GT, 1GB, PCI Express catches my eye but how much of an upgrade would I get with Geforce 8800 GTS, 640MB, PCI Express or downgrade with GeForce 9600 GT, 512MB PCI-Express?

What card should I go for?

from the three you mentioned, the 8800GT is the best choice since the GTS with 640mb runs a older chipset than the GT. in fact, the GT is slightly better than that GTS.

yes...8800gts "640mb version model" use older chipset...

8800gts (G92 is the new chipset) > 8800GT > 9600GT

Cheers guys I'll go with the GeForce 8800 GTS 512MB, (G92) PCI Express :D

edit: Does the manufacturer of the card matter? Leadtek is nearly $40 cheaper than Inno3D/Gigabyte.

not really. look at the specs, diff manufacturers might have overclocked it. well, it should say. i think the diff is the warranty. not really sure though. i'm running a inno3d card. no complains here.
