Which components are static sensitive?

I'll be receiving the components for my first build within a week. I just wanted to know which ones I should be concerned with static. Also, which components require extra care or precautions?

Umm. I am guessing but I think it would be the motherboard, graphics card, ram, processor. Pretty much everythign except for the PSU and the CD drive.

Better be safe than sorry and just make sure you are carefull with everything.

Yes, everything with open connection points or open circuits or boards would be static sensitive. ie. Motherboard, Ram, Processor, video card, sound card, etc.

Anything that looks like a chip. Simple enough.

I wouldn't be worried though, unless you were dragged for a mile on carpet.

Yeah, i second that. Done lots of builds, with no honest static safeguards in place. before touching something, i'll usually just tap the case or somethin, but ive fiddled with all sorts of countless parts, and never had anything actually happen to them. Just dont put it together on the carpeted floor.

But if u break it, its your fault :)

I wore rubber gloves when I built mine. Works perfectly.

I actually put it together on my carpet. lol None of the circuitry never touched the floor though.

I would think the CPU is the thing to be worried about, but even still, its pretty hard to fry. The first time I took apart a computer, I put all the parts on my carpet for a few hours, and to my knowledge they all work still. I know for sure the CPU does, since I used it for about six months after that.

quick way to be safe is open case and run hands on something metal. the metal is grounded fomr the pus thus keeping static down to a minium. i do this everytime with not one shock

haha, i didnt really know this when i built mine... i built on carpet and set stuff down on the carpet. so i doubt youll have problems. PS, my computer works great

RAM the chips on the HDD you really wanna be carfull with the proccesser though you can fry it just by looking at it funny and N E V E R touch its connectors but well yeah you should be safe the PSU fans and optical drives i hope that was helpfull
