Which CPU will be best for me?

hi all,
Basically i am getting a new computer for my 18th. i have seen a few good packages on websites such as MESH Computers. But the main differance between them are the CPU's. The ones i am interested in are the...

"AMD Athlon™ 64 X2 Dual-Core 3800+ with HT Tech"
and
"Intel® Pentium® D 940 Dual Core (3.2GHz,2MB Cache,800MHz)"
and
"Intel® Pentium® D 805 Dual Core (2.66GHz,2x1MB Cache,533MHz)"

i will mainly be using the computer for gaming and some uni work. So is there going to be a big differance between these? And will it really be noticable to me?

Any comments will be appriciated.

Thanks guys!

Matt :)

The Pentium D 805 potentially has a lot of overlocking potential but the X2 is the best 'out of the box' solution.

It does, but even when overclocked to 4Ghz you dont have the advantage of a higher bus, like you would on any other 8xx or 9xx cpu's.

I would go with the X2 3800+.

hi again.

would the

"AMD Athlon™ 64 X2 Dual-Core 4200+ with HT Tech"

have a noticable improvment over the "AMD Athlon™ 64 X2 Dual-Core 3800+ with HT Tech"

an improvement that i would notice! :)

thanks for the help.

Yes there will be a performance increase, however the increase will be vary depending on the program(s) your using, but generally speaking the performance differnce isnt that great.

HAHAHAHA! Oh, that was a good one....:D

I would have to say the AMD X2 3800+ is great for your needs. You will be satisfied. Exellent for gaming and future software.

That has has little or nothing to do with it. Cache is a factor, bus speed, etc.... For example some 2.2 ghz amd cpus do better than a intel cpu clocked at 3.2ghz.

Thank good somebody said it before I got here, lol.

I also recomend the X2 3800, good for price/performance ratio. Specialy if you want to overclock.

So you're saying that if i took a 2Ghz Core Duo, and compared it to a 2.66Ghz Pentium D, that the Pentium D would outperform it because it has a higher "Ghz rating"?

Oh don't blame the child, he was not born with computer knowledge like non of us, I'm pretty sure most of you thought that before you got intersted into computers.

Heh, no i never did. Hell, i didnt even know what GHZ meant. If you look on newegg, you can kinda tell that more GHZ doesnt mean faster, because why would a $600 amd chip run at 1-1.5GHZ less then a $200 intel chip?

Huh, 3GHz is always faster than 2GHz.

Efficiency and performance on the other hand can very well be better at a slower speed.
