Which CPU?

Hey guys,

I'm building a system for a friend, see thread here. I was wondering what CPU you would choose?

AMD X2 6000+ (Dual Core, 3.0ghz)
Intel Q6600 (Quad Core, 2.4 ghz)

The rig is entirely for gaming. Having that in mind I would have though a higher ghz dual core would be better for gaming than a lower ghz quad. However, as history has shown, Intels and AMD are not entirely comparable with frequency.

Anyway, I'm thinking to go with Q6600, because I saw a chart shown the Q6600 better in every way than the X2 6000+, would you confirm that?

Any other suggestion? (CPU<$300)

Yes, Q6600 is better in every way. You may want to also look at the e6750. It is sort of the Intel equivalent to the 6000+, but better.
 
The Q6600 is much better, especially in future games and apps which can fully utilize quad-cores.

Haha, well that's a good thing, it means your more, err, objective and think " what would be the best price for performance". AMD is not necessarly better than Intal or vice versa, there both great companies, what's important is what they offer for what price. ;)

Anyway Q6600 seems the way to go! And it fits the budget!
