Which CPU?

New to the forum so please forgive me if this seems simplistic....

Just purchased an Intel D955XBK I955X Socket 775 mobo...and I'm confused as to which compatible processor will be the fastest for my applications.

I'm not a gamer at all...I do a good deal of work at home (using ACAD, etc.) with some rather large files (sometimes 500mb)...and the other usual stuff (check email, listen to online music, etc.)

Could someone help me out and tell me which is best for me without inundating me with too many number crunching statistics (they would go right over my head anyway).

If you're using AutoCAD, then you'll want to go with something heavy duty. How about this: What's your budget? If it's, say, $300, then you should probably try to find a $300 processor... or a $260 processor with a $40 fan, seeing as you'll probably need it.
 
Wasn't really thinking of budget....just wanted to know what the best choice would be...after all just because a Hummer costs more than my Silverado doesn't mean it could come close to keeping up with me in an offroad race.
 
Be that as it may, the more expensive the C2D, the better. Core 2 Duo is the best processor you could get for that socket anyway, so you might as well go with the fastest one you can afford. Not just in GHz but also in L2 cache.
 
And it will work with this particular mobo? The specs don't mention Core 2 Duo as being a compatible processor...I wish computers were as easy as car audio then I'd know all of this already
 
So the one GCR recommended above should be my best bet....thanks for all the input though Ramos....and GO COWBOYS!!
 
I live in San Diego....glad to see Marty gone also....since my wife's a Seahawk fan the last old guy in Holmgren needs to go also
