Hi guys,
Do i buy
processor - amd x2 4600
RAM - 2 x 1GB Kingston pc 4200 533mhz ddr2 (dont no latency)
motherboard - Asus $75

or

processor
- core 2 duo E6300 (overclock the crap out of it!)
RAM - 1 gig OCZ Gold PC6400 800mhz
motherboard - expensive gigabyte model for overclocking the processor.

I only ask because ive got a budget!

Cheers in advance for any help

The second one would be the best choice, but consider adding another 1GB stick later down the road.

just to let you know ocz gold Ram dont work with motherboards like the gigabyte P965 ds3, ive gota fukin send it bak now!

thx

Pitty you couldn't have gone with an Asus motherboard with the second setup. Unlucky on the RAM and Mobo issue.

well the amd choice would of been good if u accually spent more $$ on the motherboard and the way u wrote out ur choices look like u wanted intel more amd.

The processor is slightly lower then the E6300, but the RAM is much worse (533 vs 800).

Overall, the 2nd one would be better.

ehh... ddr2 533 ram sometimes has a CL of 3, which can be an enourmous advantage in gaming over ddr2 800 w/ CL of 5... although you can still get ddr2 667 with a CL of 3 anyways... and ddr2 800 with a CL of 4... but either way CPU speed matters more so w/e..

Unless you think you will have the buget for another GB of ram soon, I would go for the first one just for the 2GB of ram, OR preferably I would get cheaper ram, then get 2GB with the second plan.

2nd one is better. Get the 1GB of ram, then upgrade to two when you have the money. Quantity is worse than quality when overclocking.
