The Visiontek HD 4850, or the XFX 9800 GTX+?

Really need the help to decide :P.

EDIT: I DO NOT OWN THE EVGA 680i SLI. I would get that if I were to get the GTX+. If I got the 4850, I'd get a Crossfire board of some sort.

The 9800 is a high end model compared the 4850 being a mid range there. It depends on what you need the card for gaming? Most would select the 9800 right off while I would go for an MSI, eVGA, or Sapphire over XFX.

They are pretty equal in performance, the 4850 runs a little lower in cost and uses less power. Really up to if your a ATI or Nvidia man

Wrong - Wrong - Wrong. Just post on things when you actually know what your talking about!!!

I would probably lean towards the 4850. If I was buying a video card now, ATI looks like the path to take for best value/performance.

Thanks for the help. There is one more thing though. The GTX+ uses two 6-pin connectors, while the 4850 uses one. The thing about that is that I will probably buy a second 4850 in the long run, in order for better performance, but I also might not. D:

3D Mark doesn't tell the whole story though. Look at the Crysis benchmark for example. The 4850 has better fps on Very High (9.6 vs 5.5). Or Mass Effect ultra quality, 35.4 for the 9800 GTX+ and 50.2 for the 4850. The same goes for WiC too.

I put very little stock in 3D Mark ever since the days of driver 'tweaks' that boosted 3D Mark scores.

Yeah the 4850 I think is more power efficient plus it alittle cheaper depending on the model. Performance wise they pretty much counter balance each other. Honestly I would probably go with the 9800GTx+ though:D. Used Both ATI and Nvidia cards, but I,m kinda Nvidia partial.

Sorry! I'm simply going to ignore your lame remarks here.

I can readily agree on things leaning towards ATI lately. The 4850 wouldn't be the actual performer to compare with the 9800 however. That would be something like the Sapphire 4870 X2 2gb model seen at http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102768

I'm confused... was the 9800 GTX+ just compared to the 4870 X2??? A 9800 GTX+ isn't even as good as a 4870. Have you ever looked at a benchmark or anything, or just getting your knowledge from newegg reviews?

They started mass production a little while ago. They may be out by Christmas. The GTX 270, GTX 290, and apparently a double PCB card like the 9800 GX2... that should be extreme. I don't see the point in getting them. ATi is expected to release the first DirectX 11 cards late in 2009. ATi is also unveiling new cards with a new RV790 core soon.

The GTX295, two 260 55nm (270?) GPUs in a sandwich... that's what I heard it's going to be. I heard there's supposed to be flames and smoke coming out of the back vents...

I don't bother reading newegg reviews. AMD now owns ATI explaining where they have been focusing their attention when falling behind Intel as far as quad cpus. The focus was on taking on NVidia with the newer lines of cards coming out.

The 4850 is still going to be a mid range model card something to consider if the new build FlarOn is planning will be strictly for gaming.
