Which free programs are best?

I've heard alot about avg and avast but are there other really good antivirus software? I have avg. I don't have a spyware program though any recommendations? I've also heard that a firewall is good to have also. Which free programs help protect/optimize my computer? thanx to any respondees

for adware/spyware i use Ad-Aware SE Professional, and it is free

firewall - zonealarm

another good free virus - antivir

spyware - superantispyware, avg free spyware, spybot search and destroy,

You definately need a firewall, either the windows one or a third party, definately a good antivirus, the 3 free ones are good, and 2 or 3 spyware would be good.

I'd recommend AVG for antivirus - latest version 7.5 supposed to be much improved - regularly updates definitions. I actually run Trend Micro PcCillin on 3 of my machines but run AVG on the 4th. For sypware etc I'd recommend Spybot and Adaware.
