which grathics card

can any one suggest a good upgrade of grathics card
my computer is running :-athlon 64 x2 3800+
nvida nforce 4 mother board
2 GB DDR RAM
256mb ATI radeon x800gt pci express grathics
i am running xp home editon
I do not want to spend mega bucks but would like a bit more performance for running games. keep on reading all mags but all they look at are the most pricey ones

I would say something a little lower, like a 7800 or equal ATI. That would make sure that your processor wouldn't be a bottleneck for the card.

The problem with a 7950GT is that an 8800GTS 320MB is only about $30 dearer (AMIR), and offers far better performance, particularly in the long term. A 7600GT would be OK, but not an enormous upgrade. I'd consider going midway with a 7900GS or X1950Pro. Not an enormous price difference from a 7600GT, but a decent performance benefit. You shouldn't be bottlenecked by your CPU with those either.

Of course, it really depends on how much you want to spend, you've been a little vague. Do you have a budget planned?

Any current mid range to high range card should work nicely in your system, like the 7600GT and the 7900GT.
