Ok, I said right now, I have about $1500 to spend,when I am ready to start this,I'll have $2000.That is the max. What does the extra $500 get me?

You could get a gtx480 instead. You could also get a solid state hard drive. How much hard drive space will you be needing?

For example, you could get two or three of these drives and put them in a Raid 0-

Three of those would give you 240gb hard drive space, and be unbelieveably fast. For me, thats way more than enough space, but it isn't always enough for everybody. If you need more, you could get two of those SSD's, and then get the 640gb caviar black and use it for a storage drive. Or a larger drive if you need it.


Other than that, the setup I just listed is probably the best bang for the buck ''high end'' system. The I5 750 is the best bang for the buck ''mid-high end'' CPU, but with your budget you can easily go with the I7 build.

Music and pics don't take up that much. My mom has like 7k+ songs on her's and it's not even 50gb.

But, you could get two of those 640gb caviar black's and run a raid 0 for some increased speed along with 1.2TB's of space then.

Went and looked up the gtx480,its on backorder. I am going to order 3x Intel X25 80gb drives. Was thinking about a bluray burner instead of dvd,and what does everyone think about Lian Li cases? If I were to do the i7 build above,which case would be good for me? Thanks again for the info

Lan Li cases can be a bit pricey but they're usually aluminum, good-looking, and fairly well made. Silverstone is more of the same.

If your looking for a decent case go for the Antec 1200. Plenty of room, loads of air flow, built to absolute quality. I bought mine last year for about £140. Might have gone down now, i know they used to be about £100 here in the UK.

I used to have three SSD's in raid 0, it's fun. Now I'm just down to one SSD, which is still faster than any spinning drive really.

As far as cases, thats not really my specialty so I'll let others have their say. I listed the Antec 300, which IMO is one of the best ''bang for the buck'' cases there is. Great airflow if you add 2 optional front 120mm fans. But if you don't care about bang for the buck, I'd probably go with the antec 900. The 1200 is a full ATX tower which is really overkill, the 900 is known to be one of the best ''gaming cases'' there is.

Oh and about the gtx480, it will only take a couple weeks to get one. They JUST came out a couple days ago, I thought you weren't quite ready to do this build yet? I'd still plan on getting one, they will probably be available by then.

That sir is one hell of a case.

I'd recomend a 5850 or 5870 over the gtx 470 or 480, less heat, cheaper, cheaper to run, quieter. You lose a pissyest amount of performance, no games utilise the "features" nvidia try to sell to you so they are wasted and pointless, and AMD are supposedly developing a physx equivelant, so then nvidia will have nothing that ATi don't
