which is best not playing high end games but will multi task

AMD Phenom II X2 Dual Core 555 3.2GHz

or

AMD Athlon II X4 Quad Core 640 3.0GHz

is higher GHZ better or more cores ??
 
A mixture of both. the 555BE is possible to unlock into a Phenom II X4 - but it requires certain motherboards. what is the model number of your board?

I'd take the Athlon II though. they are no slouches :)

as far as Ghz. both are overclockable, but as multitasker you shouldn't need to. and "Overclocking greatly varies due to what hardware is being used and who is doing the overclocking."
