Just a quick question, which processor is better:

-a 2.7GHz dual-core Intel Core i7
-a 2.0GHz quad-core Intel Core i7
-a 2.2GHz quad-core Intel Core i7

I am going to guess and say the Intel® Core™ i7-2720QM as noone has tested them yet. I only say that beleiving that you would be able to hit 2.7ghz on the 2720.

I was just looking around, not really planning on getting one, the macbook pros use them and I was wondering why the more expensive ones had lower (I don't know the technical term) Ghz processors.

not necessarilly, for pricing ys, but if used for single threaded apps then the clock beats ghz, different cpu's for different purposes, also the reason they make he turbo's, turns cores down to lowest setting to boost voltage to others so they can go higher speed

I'm guessing you are looking at laptop processors from the dual core i7...'

Anyway the 2.2GHz quad-core would be the best one. More cores generally means better performance as long as it's the same manufacturer. After that the faster the cores the faster the processor.

Can someone explain what the difference between a processor with one core and one with four cores and what that means?

A Quad-Core processor chip contains four processors that operate at the same frequency, but independently of each other. This technology was introduced by Intel in November 2006. The QX6700 Kentsfield was the first quad-core processor Intel manufactured.

Multiple core processors increase the multi-processing capabilities of a system. Multi-processing is the ability of a system to do more than one thing at a time.

Many programs now are being coded to take advantage of multi-core processors.

it's essentiallly the same as 1 guy doing all these math problems, vs a team of 4 guys doing the same amount, or 2 doing that work and the other 2 can do a different load of work that can't be done otherwise without it slowing to a crawl

didn't show yours while i was posting
