I got into an argument with a forum member the other day about this: which is better Dell or HP? (Im an HP fanboy, he's a Dell fanboy). Since this is a laptop thread, lets limit the discussion to only laptops.

1) Post your thoughts and experiences with either/both brands.
2) Post about which design style you like better.
3) Post about the quality and reliability of parts used by either/both brands.

Please keep flaming to a minimum

Hate dell. too many things i think goes wrong. i have a hp and love it. and the style on hp is so much better then dell

I like dell laptops (the only dell products i like). My dad had one, it was really light and quiet and runs cool.

i have always liked HP and i have always hated Dell. to me, dell has projected an image of catering low-end crap for cheap to people who dont know better.
HP computers look dead sexy and have alot of extra features included that many other companies (Dell) would charge extra for (PCI remote, two headphone jacks, an HDMI port(on my dv9000), card reader, dvd burner, built in mic, you get the idea).

I'm a little biased, since I've never owned an HP laptop. I have to go with Dell. It's cheap, runs good, had no problems, and has a slew of features that I would have paid through the roof for if I had gone with an HP(remember, I'm in Canada). I also like the styling of this laptop, even though I agree HP has some pretty kickass design for their laptops. But, I still prefer funcionality over case design:P

dell laptop ordered on the 7/19, now still in production stage ship date is 8/28, expects another delay.

hp laptop ordered on the 8/8, arrived on 8/16

My dad has an HP zd8000 which I sometimes use and I love it!! Rock solid notebook no problems with it whatsoever. I'm gonna have to go with HP.

Got my Dell in less than 2 weeks. None of the parts I picked had the delay notice though.

I've had 3 Dell's, and they've all lasted a while without any major problems. I would highly recommend the Inspiron line for anyone who wants a well built laptop for a low price.

Dells are great.....For the first 3 months...downhill from there!! I have seriously NOT met ANY dell owner (in real life) that has anything good about dell to say. My dad has a Dell desktop with good specs for what he uses it for whihc is only email and quickbooks. Nothing else. My brother uses his computer heavily for music.

Both started to deteriorate 3 months after they were bought.

But the best part is is how they ALWAYS honor their warranties!!!! [/sarcasm]

However, i have a HP pavilion dv4165cl and it has outlasted both. 3 years and counting! Only problems i have is the power jack is loose and hasto be wiggled to charge. (i dont want to get another mobo to fix that), and that was my doing. Hell, this laptop has even been dropped waist high 2 times.

So id say definitely HP!!
