I want to buy a new mother board and if i can get a decent combo deal with a CPU that would be great. I am not looking for anything fancy. What is better my intel Celeron D 2.8GHZ or an Athlon 64 3200 + 2.2GHz processor. I really don't know the difference or how to tell.

What is your price limit? Here is some decent hardware that will be much faster than your current setup that doesn't cost a lot:

AMD Athlon II 240 Regor Dual-Core (2.8 gigahertz) Processor - $59

GIGABYTE GA-MA78LM-S2H Motherboard - $60

G.SKILL 2 gigabytes (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) RAM - $49

Edit: The Single-Core Athlon 3200+ is faster than any Celeron D, but those are both pretty slow processors. I would look at an Athlon II Dual-Core Processor. They are much faster than any Celeron D or Single-Core Athlon first generation processor.

But the Athlon II setup will probably be better if you are not an overclocker at all. The E3200 is a great overclocker, I got one to 4.2ghz on air. I've owned an Athlon II 245 and it maxxed out at 3.8ghz.
