Which is better?

Well, i was planing on making a gaming machine, and went with the AMD Athlon X2 4400 for my CPU, but recently i heard that dual core causes boot problems and freezes up games, so i though about buying the AMD Athlon San Diego 4000

So which is better for intense gaming? The AMD Athlon 64 San Diego 4000, or the AMD Athlon X2 4400

I would go with the X2 4400+, only a few people have problems with games, but it's easily fixable. Not to mention that the 4400+ will run new games better than the 4000+.

Dual core is the new norm. If you buy a single core, your computer will be outdated within a year or two, as all new games will utilize dual cores.

Probably sooner.

True and that's why getting a dual core is a much better choice, you won't be able to multitask with single core like you can with a dual core CPU.

isnt quad cor coming out like sometime next year i think sony should make cpu's there new ps3 cpu is 3.2 ghz and has 7 cores no lie 7 its unbeleivable they wer trying to be first to develop the duel core when they were beat the wanted to have the best one out there lol

actually thats a next gen processor... the cell processor is in the PS3. technically... its one core with 7 cell processors... sort of like a gpu which has multiple pixel pipelines... its not actually 7 cores. PS3's processor will be amazing though. 2 teraflops!
but yea, if you buy now get a dual core.

we are only a month away from conroe launch
can you wait.....
prices will drop madly ( i guess ) and then buy what's better for you
also benchmarks says that conroe has more FPS rate than FX .... but it's not official yet
so i suggest you hold on that month

I agree, but if you cant than the X2 4400+ would be the best choice.

No, the cell processor will have 7 SPE's (Synergistic Processing Elements).

Just out of curiosity, when was the first dual core proc released?

Cause if dual core knocks single core out so soon after the release, it makes you wonder what quad is going to do.

Well it's been out for a while, but the pentium d's have only been around for maybe a couple years... im not 100% sure though.

Try about a year.

The first dual core processor was the IBM POWER4, released in 2001.

oh right theyre specialized... forgot about that.
btw if you have to cut down on what you spend on the video card youre better off going with a better video card + worse processor for a gaming computer.
