ok just a quick question in everone opinoin which is better a amd anthlon 64 3800+ to a intel p4 3.2ghz

Pretty much what everyone else said, i've had an AMD for about 1 and a half years and my brother had an equivilent pentium, but when playing games the AMD totally walked over it, but the pentium was far better for multi taskin (as everyone has said).

actually if it were between the 3200+ and that processor id say athlon 64 for gaming... but the two processors are fairly imbalanced. personally id go with an X2 of the lowest grade for AM2 and overclock it to like 2.8ghz.

nope, well what build of p4 are u getting because most p4's are 3.2 ghz, which people also misconsept about, thinking OMG 3.5 GHZ Woot, but really ghz is not everything to a cpu, Cache, Intructions per Clockcycle, etc... are what really matter. Please state the build of the P4 for further comparison.

doesnt the 3800 mean it's equivalent to a p4 3.8 ghz? I remeber hearing that somewhere.

Its what the first Athlon before the XP would have to be running at to get the same performance, Plain jane socket A Athlon would have to run at 3.8ghz. to reach the Athlon 64 3800 speed!

I've heard that the architecture used before is what would have to be running at the rating to be as good as the current. For example, a Thoroughbred clocked at 2.4GHz would be as fast as a Barton 2400+.

But there are many different versions of what the rating means.

i have a question:
what does every single word means in this name below:
amd: ok i know, its the name of the company
anthlon: I think its a type of a AMD cpu, true?
64 :?
3800:?
+:?
