which is better?

Depends on your case and airflow.

If you are able to get the heat away and out of the case quickly, the VF900 is miles better.

But, if the hot air would simply rise to the processor area, then the Thermaltake option would be best, as that chucks the warm air directly out the case (the VF900 would cool better, but the warm air would rise up and warm up the processor).

I mean, get the heat out of the case pretty much as soon as it is blown over the fins on the VF-900, so it can't drift up and warm the processor.

Use your ingenuity. I use thin cardboard to route air when I need to. Just use cardboard to prevent warm air travelling up to CPU from GPU, and use the cardboard to contain it all underneath the GPU PCB. Then use fan(s) to suck the warm air out.

Well, I use a PCI blower fan, but I doubt that is getting all of the warm air out. You kinda need to stop holding my hand here and run off into the unknown.
