Alright, just making sure. Someone said to me "AGP is faster... with my experience, I believe AGP is a better card." I disagreed.

AGP 8x, using a 32-bit channel operating at 66 MHz octuple pumped to an effective 533 MHz resulting in a maximum data rate of 2133 megabytes per second; 0.8 V signaling.

First-generation PCIe is often quoted to support a data-rate of 250 MB/s in each direction, per lane. This figure is a calculation from the physical signalling-rate (2500 Mbit/s) divided by the encoding overhead (10bits/byte.) This means a 16 lane (x16) PCIe card would then be theoretically capable of 250 * 16 = 4000 MB/s in each direction. While this is correct in terms of data bytes, more meaningful calculations will be based on the usable data-payload rate which depends on the profile of the traffic, which is a function of the high-level (software) application and intermediate protocol levels.

As you said the raw speed of PCIe is faster, but since software is generally geared with the lowest common denominator in mind the full bandwidth isn't going to be used.

Exactly.

That's why alot of AGP 6600GT's compared against PCI-E 6600GT's give you the exact SAME results.

PCI-E is faster, but that doesn't mean it's going to perform better since olde technology in the rest of your PC in a way "holds it back".

Actually the AGP and PCIe versons of those cards give different performance because of the PCIs->AGP bridge chip.

really? i saw benchies where the scores were almost identical. maybe they were cheaters lol. i always thought they were darn close performance wise on the 6600GT.

also, a 6800gt pci-e and agp version have the same exact speeds, pipelines, and features such as directx, opengl, pixelshader, ect.

PCI-Express cards are slightly faster
Who said anything about cards? ;)

Well the PCIe cards have a 50Mhz clock advantage

You're right, but it took a while for the PCI-E cards to come into their element. The early PCI-E cards were easily outperformed by their AGP counterparts. Obviously, this is no longer the case.
