I am starting this to show many non Linux user's what OS we choose and how we use it.

I am currently running Ubuntu Lucid Lynx 10.04. It is a LTS (Long Term Support) which means unlike some othe Distros I am the supported OS for 3 years till the next LTS is released.

I use my distro for many things, biggest thing is for music production, have been playing guitar for 8 years and Ardour runs native with Linux and from my understanding is similar to pro tools which I have never used but this program helps me get that studio sound for all my tracks I record. I also am now trying to learn how to use gimp with my pictures which may not be as good as CS5 but it gets the job done. Believe it not I play video games on there like wow and diablo on there which runs flawless under wine. Finally ofcourse I am huge into surfing the web, watching videos, using my Amazon mp3 market place to download music on banshee media player and syncing them to my android.

So now I want to hear from the other Linux users on here your Flavor of chioce and what do you use it for.

I run Linux Mint 10 for my main OS. It has support for about any piece of hardware i could ever want/use, easy to set up and fully customisable. GTKPod works great with my ipod, Nvidia has great driver support for linux, etc.

I also have Backtrack 4 R2 installed for a Network Security class, and UE Gamers edition (Ultimate Edition) for well, gaming. :P It's already set up with multiple games and such, and it leaves clutter out of my main OS as well.

Lastly, #!, AKA CrunchBang. This is setup on a separate computer for use as a server wether it be gaming or something else. The installer even walks you through setting it up as a server as soon as you install it.

So, you could say i've used my fair share of distros. DistroWatch.com is always a great site to check out.

I use Ubuntu 10.04 LTS AMD64 on my HP. I will use the LTS until next month when 11.04 will release, and I will update. There is a new distro twice a year, and i always get the april one.
I use it as a media server setup bed. When I get a DVD that I want to take with me to say school, or on a trip, I use the Acidrip App to bring it copy the entire movie to my movie folder, which I sync with my 500 GB pocket hard drive to take with me (its legal as long as you do not redistribute the media without the copy writters consent). Helps a lot with my IBM, as it has a battery in the hot swap bay. Can take it and my movies wherever I go.
