Which linux takes up least system resources???

Which linux takes up the least system resoures out of them all??

I want ont that'll load fast on start up and wont use much resources, also i want it to be able to use gernal stull e-mail internet, firefox, nd preferably a game or two if posible, if it could just support World Of Warraft i'll be happy, or Day Of Defeat. but tis not needed, but it would be a big plus.
 
I personally use Slackware 10.2. I've had it installed on an old P2 Thinkpad and it ran like a dream. Was very fast....wouldn't know it was only a P2. I have tried a lot of distros and I always end up back with Slack.

There's distros such as Damn Small Linux which has been installed on things like gameboys and such (can't be too many resources there) but I'm not sure what it all includes, you'll have to look into that.

You could always use a live CD, but I'd suggest you have 2 optical drives....one for the live CD and one for any other CD's/DVD's that you may want to use (Music, movies, recording, etc), and you'll want at least a small fat partition to save a home directory.

Are you looking for a distro for a specific purpose, or are you trying to learn the OS, or just trying it out, or what??

I'm making a second PC uot of crappy crappy part's for it can be under 50$ easy(Already have keyboard mouse, moniter and Curon 800mhz is i decide thats what im going to use) and it's just going to be for my room to do mainly e-mail and internet(need'a firefox too becuase i'll be working on my site from there and i ened to see how things work in firefox too) I don't want to pay for window's again, and i want somethign that takes up less resources and runs faster with it.

Since there are 2 votes for Slackware I guess i'll try that, I'm going to install it directly to the harddrive, because I'll only be having one 24x CDrom drive in there, and it only opens "sometimes" when you press the button hahaha.

Would it be possible to play any games on it, like WoW or DoD? as long as i meet the system requirments(except for the OS of corse) for those late night boredem strikes.

check out all their areas there too and get yourself accustomed to the OS

the download is linked under "Get Slack"
you can configure the packages you want to be installed when you go through the initial install procedure.
 
For the most part, it does not really matter what distro you use. Keep in mind most of your resources are going to be used by the window manager (KDE, Gnome, etc). Most distros will install either KDE or Gnome by default. Try keeping to a light weight window manager like Fluxbox if you find the others are too hard on your system.
