which mobo for amd64 4000?!?!

Help me! :confused:
I'm planning to buy a completely new gaming PC, and have chosen by the advice of other forum members to go for the AMD athlon64 4000 CPU...
I also wish to have 1GB of DDR2 ram, 1 x 120GB SATA (SATA2 if possible), and i'm yet to decide on video card, but it will most likely be PCIE.
What mother board will support this???
I also would like in-built LAN...

i have practically no experience with choosing motherboards, just installing them...
so if someone, or a few different people could point me in the right direction for a suitable gaming PC, i would be eternally grateful!

I would say for you to go with any of the nForce 4 sets for the support PIC-Express and have built in LAN. They also come with built in audio.
 
I would say go with the MSI "Neo4 Platinum SLI board it is top of all other MOBOS except for the DFI but it rates comes just below it. The Neo4 board has 2 PCIEXPRESS slots with a SLI chip to enable the use of 2 videos side by side for very nice setup(and for future upgrades aswell). The board supports for RAID usage. The motheboard on the other hand will not take PC2 memory AMD's I have found are yet to have PC2 on there motherboards.It handles up to 4GB of ram for alot of power that you proble won't use right not but good for future upgrades. The board will take the CPU at 939 pin.

*WARNING* stay clear of the Gigabye GA-K8NXP-SLI even thought it is a very good board ASUS, DFI, and MSI are much better choices for the mobo.

You can have that but you wont be able to install it on an AMD system

The ording of the boards is arguable but the point indeed is made about them being the top two boards.

Nothing fancy, thats provided by the NF4 chipset what IS nice however is that on the MSI board, the second set of SATA lines is SATA-II. The PCI Express slots are actually PCIx16

Just because YOU had a problem with that board doesnt mean everyone will. Like mine for instance. Runs perfectly fine :)
 
Praetor, you seem to know a bit... but all you did was rebute what people had already said, and didn't really explain your comments...
why wont an AMD system support 1Gb DDR2? would i be better off with 1Gb DDR?
what would you suggest that i buy?

Because the memory controller for amd are built onto the amd chips. Amd made there memory controllers on the chip for ddr not ddr2. This mean no matter what the motherboards companies want to do there is no way for them to make it compatiable with ddr2. therefore like praetor said you cant have ddr2 with a amd setup.

The good news is the ondie memory controller have some benfits.

you be fine with 1gb of DDR PC3200 ram (higher ram if you plan to overclock otherwise it pointless)

Because the CPU doesnt support DDR2. Why not? Ask AMD although my guess is that its complex to integrate an extra 56/112 connects into the memory controller)

Awesome mobo but not PCIe as required :) The Neo4 Platinum is the PCIe board
 
nVidia went to Asus FIRST for there nForce 4 SLI, which should tell you something about the company.

It shows us that if you invest in nVidia you should look at ASUS stocks as well. Drawing anything signifcant about final products would be foolish .... JEDEC implemented DDR2 on Intel platforms first ... now is that supposed to mean something? At no point have i noted that the ASUS A8N is a bad board -- it just not the best board from any key perspective
