Hey guys,

I'm doing the build it yourself thing and i have NO IDEA on the mobo. I-ve read a couple faq's here and there but i think it would be much better to get some expert advice. I want to be able to upgrade quite a bit so thats pretty much the biggest factor in my equation. I'm still not qute sure about the SLI and crossfire stuff so i'm just gonna post what i THINK are good mobos all around.

So here are my options budget wise:

1. GigaByte GA-870A-UD3 AMD 870/SB850 chipset support DDR3 Ultra Durable™3 Socket AM3 ATX Mainboard w/ 7.1 Audio, GBLAN, Support 6-core CPU, CPU Auto Unlocker, USB3.0, SATA-III, ON/OFF Charge for IPod, RAID, 2 Gen2 PCIe, 2 PCIe X1, & 3 PCI.

2. ASUS M4A87TD EVO AMD 870 Chipset CrossFireX Support DDR3 Socket AM3 ATX w/ 7.1 Audio, GbLAN, IEEE1394a, USB3.0, SATA-III.

3. Asus M4N98TD EVO AM3 NVIDIA nForce 980a SLI Chipset DDR3 ATX w/ 7.1 HD Audio, GbLAN, USB2.0, IEEE1394, SATA-II, RAID, 2 Gen2 PCIe, 2 PCIe X1 & 2 PCI

Here are my specs:
* CAS: * Apevia X-Plorer 2 Mid-Tower Case w/ Side-Panel Window and MultiMeter Display (Silver Color with 200mm UV Blue LED Fan)
* CPU: AMD Phenom™II X6 1100T Six-Core CPU w/ HyperTransport Technology [+20]
* FAN: XtremeGear Liquid Cooling System 120MM Radiator & Fan (Enhanced Cooling Performance + Extreme Silent at 20dBA) (Single Standard 120MM Fan)
* HDD: 40 GB A-DATA S599 Series Gaming MLC Solid State Disk [+25] (Single Hard Drive)
* HDD2: 500GB SATA-II 3.0Gb/s 16MB Cache 7200RPM HDD [+43] (Single Hard Drive)
* MEMORY: 8GB (2GBx4) DDR3/1600MHz Dual Channel Memory Module (Corsair or Major Brand)
* POWERSUPPLY: 600 Watts - XtremeGear Power Supply - SLI/CrossFireX Ready
* VIDEO: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 460 2GB 16X PCIe Video Card [+38] (Major Brand Powered by NVIDIA)

Asus M4N98TD EVO as you can SLi on that.
BTW, you need a branded 750W if you want to SLi GTX 460
Even for single video card, it would be better to go for branded, not XtremeGear

recommend core i5 2500K over Phenom II x6

RAM - 2 x 4GB if you want 8GB in total

SSD - better to get 60GB. 40GB would be a bit tight for OS and programs

is that a spec n build?? specify the parts they build it?? or buy those parts n they shipp, you assemble? like from cyberpowerpc,ibuypower,etc.???

hmmm...yu can find btter deals if you look at newegg/tigerdirect...

you get get a good/better deal building with parts from newegg...etc.

Dump the extreme gear crap, it's a waste of money. Water cooling is expensive most of the blocks are rendered useless when you want to upgrade to new hardware.

A 750w PSU isn't needed either, the GTX 460 has a TDP of 160W (at stock) so you'd need something like a 550W unit for two and a non-overclocked CPU.

A 650W unit (a good one mind you!) would be enough to power everything and allow for a little overclocking.

When adding up power usage, you want to find the TDP of the part, not the recommended powersupply wattage, as the latter is for the whole system with that part and the former is for the part itself.
