Which motherboard?

Simple question, really. I am looking for a new mobo for my Opteron 144 (S939). But I have had nothing but problems with my nForce3 chipset mobo I have had to return. So I want to steer clear of nForce altogether.

That said, can anyone recommend a decent AGP board that's a good overclocker for under £100? I was looking at the Gigabyte GA-K8V Ultra-939 (here) but I can't for the life of me find a review on it... If anyone can find one they will win....well my gratitude. :o

alright i don't think you should be looking for a review on this specific board but on any boards that contain this chipset.

I had an ECS board based on this chipset (KV2) it was faster then the nforce4 that i am using now.

I have read reviews that compared VIA and nforce chips and VIA came out tops.

just a suggestion.
 
Cheers for that. I have read somewhere that Maxtor drives and the nForce4 chipset have compatability problems, and on my old nForce3 board it always came up with a error warning that related to the nForce ethernet. Seems to me nVidia should have stuck to producing graphics cards lol.
 
Nforce chipsets are *far* superior then VIA for skt 939.

Thats just for their SATA 3.0 Gb/s drives. You can run them as SATA 150 then update firmware and jump them back to 3.0 Gb/s

Seems to me nVidia should have stuck to producing graphics cards lol.

Actualy nvidia dont even make their own graphic cards

Basicly what I'm trying to say is that VIA chipsets are considered low end budget models and if you can afford it, an nvidia or ATi chipset will outperform it. Dont think so badly about nforce because of your one experiance.

As for what board I would recomend, to tell you the truth your board is the top of the line AGP and skt 939 board. Can you RMA it for a relacement? No other board is going to be as good as that unless you move to PCIe
 
DFI and Asus make damn good boards. If you're planning to switch to PCIe, Asus is one of the few companies that make a SLIx16 board.
