I'm looking to buy a netbook (my very first) with a long battery life and decent hdd (40gb at least) Right now i'm in between these 2. I don't want to spend more than $500 total on the netbook and accessories. I will want to upgrade the RAM to 2gb as well.

I wouldn't hesitate to choose the 40gb ssd netbook if it were loaded with windows XP. However if i did choose it i would want to install XP on it because i noticed this netbook has driver support for windows XP (from Asus website). My solution is to use a ide to usb adapter on a internal cd drive for the fresh install. The problem is i'm not sure how to use a external cd drive to install a OS on a netbook. Would the cd drive be detected on post? And could i boot from it?
Adapter i'm referring to: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16812107114
I'm leaning towards the 160gb hdd one right now because there would be no hassle of installing a fresh copy of Windows XP. However i want a netbook that is quick and responsive on startup as well as during regular use.
Any input would be appreciated!
