Which of these coolers would cool this processor better?

I'm thinking about purchasing the Phenom II 710, or Athlon II 640, and will probably overclock so I don't want a stock cooler.

Which of these would be a better cooling option in a 690 II case by Cooler Master?

GeminII S or Hyper 212 Plus

EDIT: I know somebody will probably say to buy the Athlon, but even though the phenom isn't guaranteed to unlock, I would maybe get it for the L3 Cache.

according to frostytech, they're about the same. Just get the one that works best for your case setup (if it's going to be standing up sideways, I would get the gemini). The gemini also looks cooler (haha, punny). :D

I would get the hyper 212. And get the Athlon II. Four cores is better than 3 cores with the L3 cache by FAR. Plus the Athlon II's run very cool. You almost can't overheat them on the stock cooler.

Yeah, and the Athlon should be C3 too.

I'd rather Use the GemenII S because it is much smaller. But the Hyper 212 looks easier to install and has Heat-pipe direct contact...

I would get the Hyper 212. keeps air flowing towards the exhaust fan and expandable to 2 fans for a push pull setup if you need the extra cooling in the future.

Whoa, no it's not smaller at all! I've owned one, it's huge. It's a 120mm fan also, just laying on it's side so actually it has the potential of getting in the way of a lot of motherboard heatsinks on the chipsets etc.

Honestly if he gets the Athlon II, he'd be fine with a 92mm rifle cooler like this one-

There would be no temp difference, and 92mm still cools plenty for an Athlon II.

Here's a pic of an old setup of mine in a microATX case, look how HUGE that thing is-

I highly recommend the Xigmatec 92mm cooler I posted in my last post. It won't stand near as tall, and cool plenty good for an Athlon II 640.

EDIT- I take that back this one is better and cheaper-

You can also have ram clearance issues depending on the board and your choice of ram with the Gemini. The xigmatek rifle coolers are the way to go, and 92mm instead of 120mm for better clearance.

Technically it's a HDT tower cooler, rifle refers to the fan, which has rifle bearings;) (Newegg and their titles, haha)

I also highly suggest the xigmatek.

Another option is the CM Hyper TX3 (which I have) and it does a great job of keeping my 635 cool, overclocked and all.
