which one is better?

i'm looking to buy a new laptop $700 and under. i'll only be using it as a home computer for surfing the web, msging, and occasional word docs/pwrpoints/etc.
i'm completely cluess when it comes to knowing a good computer, but my question is...in your opinion...what is the best computer for home use that is obviously reliable and requires little maintenance for $700 or less and why do you suggest it?
i have been recommended the dell inspiron 1420.
