Speed and price, also power consumption, I am try to understand the different type of CPUs, how to differentiate them, But INTEL make it hard to understand, have to do deep reserch and compare, in the single core days we just look at the speed of the core and say this is better, but now it is not the case again.

I would argue that wasn't the case back then. Even if one single core CPU has a higher frequency, the architecture is different. With 4-core Intel 2500k vs AMD 4-core 995, even with the same clocks, the i5 is faster.

and even if there was a 995, which would run at like 4-4.2ghz (somewhere in there), the i5 would still win

I am talking about 286,386, 486, and Pentium to pentium IV days. Those days when we choose computer, we just look at the speed of the cpu and the amount of ram and the hard drive space, we don't even care about the hard drive speed then.
