I own an old dell computer with an 8400gs. its a dimension 8400. i dont know the exact motherboard but its nothing good.

You'll need a new power supply to run the 9800GT. The Dimension 8400 ships with a 350W power supply, while the 9800GT requires a minimum of 400W with 26 amps supporting the +12V rail.

The 88/9800GT is a little faster card then the 3870. AMD/ATI put out the 4830 to directly compete with the 88/9800GT in price and performance.
