Which one?

Both Intel and Amd will be fine for gaming. Personally I would go with AMD if gaming is the primary purpose but not the AMD you chose. Most people dont buy optrons for a gaming computer. You better off going with a athlon 64 skt 939 board. This will save you money on the motherboard and the ram(skt 940 need registered ram) that you could spend on getting a better graphic card then the x600 PRO. Maybe a 6600GT or better.

get amd, but not opterons for gaming! those are for servers. that vid card wont work too well with the new games, ill suggest some good parts, how much total can u spend?

mobo:dfi nf4 board, either sli or ultra
cpu:http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16819103539
that is only about 15$ more than that opteron, this is one of the best cpu's out there
hdd:sataII hitachi
sound card:audigy 2 zs
ram:2x512 reline 4000 or 2x512 ocz vx 4000
psu:ocz powerstream
gpu:6600gt

well see, i currently have an AMD running at 2.2 GHz. a few of my friends got new Dells and their computers are so fast compared to mine. the games also play better on theirs, but that could be because i have a crappy video card and 512 MB of ram. but yea isnt intel faster?

amd's are faster for the price, theres is faster of coarse b/c its new

but what cpu do u have? if urs is 2.2 then that means u got it in the last couple of months, it would be a 3500,3700,or 4200,which would rape almost any intel

or unless ur confused and u have an amd 2200 which if compltelty different from and amd 2.2

Since speed is measure in ghz by that intel is faster. The catch is Speed dont mean much when it comes to performance. This is why both Intel and AMD no longer use speed to name there cpus.

athlon xp 3200+ or athlon 64 3200+?

anthlon xp 3200+ and to me its really slow... i like the intels that my friends have. so i dunno if i wanna go with AMD or intel... and also intel's RAM is faster isnt it? PC 6400 compared to 3200?

Intel can use DDR2 ram which amd can not. DDR2 have alot higher speed ram then DDR but it comes at the cost of worse timming.

I think the motherboard you chose for the intel system standard ram is DDR2 533 according to newegg(which could be wrong because newegg wrong alot). I know ASUS makes a intel motherboard that DDR2 800 is the standard ram for it.

well no wonder urs is slow, u have the xp, the 64 is way better than the xp

who rly cares about ddr2? amd will be moving to it soon tho. anyways, u can just overclock and can reach 500

yah ddr2 has cas latency of like 5 while ddr usually is around 2 for average priced ram. ddr2 draws less power however and have higher clocks. benchmarkwise they are about the same. no drastic performance increase.

Well according to your own comment... AMD cares.

anyways, u can just overclock and can reach 500
Assuming of course its capable of that,

benchmarkwise they are about the same. no drastic performance increase.
Benchmarks are wildly different dude. Also, not all DDR runs CAS5 and in fact most are CAS3/4

i cant wait till amd with ddr3
Well then you're not gonna have a fun time waiting ;)

im definetly not gunna have a fun time waiting, so much new technologies have came out latley and i cant wait till '08 when there will be soooooo much better stuff out, hopefully the quad cores will be on there way then, longhorn, ddr3 amd
