Which OS is better?

:( hate windows and microsoft,
I wish i could program my own os.

If you want EXTREME customibility and the OS doesn't have to be either Windows or Mac compatible, but still has plenty of software go Linux. I'd recommend Ubuntu Linux http://www.ubuntu.com/

There's MANY versions of Linux, but Ubuntu is one of the easiest and imho the best. It's what I use as my main OS. Oh... did I mention it's open source?

Sadly, I can put Novell on my resume since I used it for several years at one of my old jobs. People look at it, and always ask me, OK, but do you know Microsoft?

No one cares about Novell at all any more. Too bad because I think they made a decent product, they could just never keep it up to date. Now they own SuSe Linux and they have enterprise level Linux. See where that takes them, because I do know Open Directory now.

OS/2 warp is not dead technology. It is run by ecomstation.

Travis, it is a dead technology. You don't see job posting for OS/2 Warp admins, or have it a requirement to know it for employees. Technically beOS and Amiga are still alive in user groups, but I would still call that a dead OS. Since, Microsoft owns a portion of the code that OS2 was based on, it will never have another official release.

It is sadly a dead technology. I wish there were more commercial OSes out there to give MS some more competition, but there really isn't.

I think the real question is, why does it matter. someone can give you all the pros and cons in the world and your still going to have to prove to the world that your a complete n00b by thinking black and white

It is about personal preference though some people want to seek out information about other platforms. It matters to some and others it doesn't.

BTW, windows uses back slashes, not forward.

c:\windows\system32

for example

If I could choose one word to describe tlarkin, 'n00b' would be at the absolute bottom of the list. He's proven time and time again he knows what he's talking about. He's correct about it being dead; having a handful of people who use it and having widespread-distribution for companies are not even remotely on the same playing field. Call it mortally wounded and about to bleed the last drops of blood if it will make you sleep easier, I suppose, but the fact does remain: it will never be mainstream.

Check and Mate.

well, If you can do everything that you want to do on the computer, MAC is the way. Other wise if you are used to windows stay with it. It can be hard changing from PC to MAC.

Anyway. i've tried Ubuntu, Kubuntu, Arch Linux, MS (like all versions) and Mac, and i'd have to say i'd go with MS if you don't have alot of experience in programming or such (open source can suck for games) and ditto Mac, Mac's a bit easier with games tho. Mac is sleek as shit and i love it! It's really nice, the newest (Leopard) is really nice, and a beast with handling multimedia. I prefer it for mixing music by far and for graphic editing (video or pic)....

Ubuntu 8.04 just came out a bit ago, ditto Kubuntu (Ubuntu with KDE)... I haven't tried Ubuntu but Kubuntu is awesome, and i've tried Ubuntu 7.10 which was nice. Both are crazy stable and have the versatility of a Swiss pocket knife. One that can access the internet. Ask IrishWhistle about Ubuntu, he seems to love it!

Arch Linux isn't recommend if your not major programming savvy, i had issues with it too.
