which pc should i buy???

Listed are the differences. Both have 4 GB memory. I am only going to be using this computer for basic internet, but I want it to be fast. No gaming, pics, etc. Which pc should I buy?? Is the Duo processor actually faster since it is 3.0 GHz compared to 2.4 GHz?? I may run multiple applications at once but nothing major at all, couple internet sites and excel maybe.

Inspiron 530s
-slim design
-Duo processor E8400 (2mb L2, 3.0 GHz, 1333 FSB)
-1 year warranty
-250 GB hard drive
-17" monitor

Inspiron 518 ($60 more)
-Quad processor Q6600 (8mb, L2, 2.4GHz, 1066 FSB)
-3 year warranty
-500 GB hard drive
-19" monitor
 
I don't think you need a fancy machine for your needs.
Maybe you should buy a machine that doesn't have such
a big hard drive if you dont need it for space. It will save
you money. If you still want to go ahead I suggest
you buy the 1st one. The first one has enough speed for what
you want.

By the way, how much RAM has each one got?

I say buy the second, For a little cost more you get a much faster/newer processor.
so the answer to your question is no the 3.0ghz is not faster.
a quad core(4 cores obviously) is going to be faster than a Duo (2 cores)
i understand you wont be using your computer for any "system demanding" applications. but for 60 dollars more, The second computer is going to last you longer down the road just because its newer technology. AND if you ever decided you would like to do more than basic computer work, you have a better computer to build off of.

but if all of the above doesnt matter to you. get the first one, its still a good computer and plenty fast for everyday computer use.
