Which Processor?

Hello,
I need help in deciding which processor to buy
i currently have an AMD athlon 3000. But i'm thinking about buying a dual core proccessor. Microdirect have a great offer of 3.2ghz for a pentium Dual core for around £90

(Intel CPU Pentium 4 D 935 Dual core 2x3.2GHz 800FSB LGA775 2x2MB cache Retail inc.Fan (3yr Manufacturers Warranty) .

If i got this i'd have to get a new motherboard. I've found a motherboard that will support it. the motherboard is.

(Gigabyte GA-VM900M motherboard LGA775 VIA P4M900 Intel Core 2 Duo/ Pentium D/P4 PCI-e x16 micro ATX)

But i'm not sure if the new motherboard will work with the rest of my parts which are:
ATI Radeon 9600 256mb
512mb RAM
80gb and 40gb sata hard drives
LG DVDRAM, DVD + RW
If i did get this intel processor do u know if it'll work with these parts?

Or i was also thinking about a AMD athlon, but there doesnt seem to be any really good processors and they're not as powerful as pentium

Any help would be appreciated.

for only a little bit more you can get a core2duo E6300 which would be a much better option.

If you move over to the intel line though you will need to replace your memory and your gfx card most likely. The memory is a definate as you will currently have DDR memory and need to change to DDR2.

Your gfx card is AGP I believe so that will not fit in the new board

You dont multiply the clock speeds, its just 3.2ghz.

That was a quote from a website(I beleive) It's pretty common to see 2x3.2GHz or whatever the core speed is because you do have two times the cores :rolleyes:
But yes, if you're referring to to doubling the clock speed, that is incorrect.
 
I think i'll go with a new amd athlon dual core instead. There's a 2.2ghz dual core amd for around the same price. Would that be as good as the 3.2ghz intel dual core processor? i'd still need a new motherboard but that shud be compatible with my other parts i think.
