Which PSU

I have been using staticice, thanks. Also heard of msy, I'll have a look at their prices. And I live in Glen Waverley.

TruePower II 480w (www.antec.com/specs/TPII480_spe.html)
NeoPower 480w (www.antec.com/specs/Neo480_spe.html)

From what I can see:
Both have identical output specs.
NeoPower 480w has slightly better Overvoltage trip points on the +5 & +12 v's and automatic input voltage selection rather than a manual switch
NeoPower also has a cable management where you just use the cables you need...
That seems about it. The NeoPower looks to be pretty much a TruePower with better voltage control and a selective cable system. It's also black instead of the plain finish. If it's a similar price, i'd go for it, but don't pay a premium.

I really want the Soprano. And it looks like MSY's prices are very good. I hope they can let me buy the soprano without the psu. So what do you suggest? NeoPower, or TruePower?

Hopefully they'll let you, given that they sell the PSU that comes in the Soprano case seperately anyway. I can't see the Neo480 on the msy website, only the NeoHE lineup which, while better, is also more expensive and a bit of overkill.

The only real advantage I see with the Neo480 is the cable management system, so it really just depends on price. If you can get the Neo480 within about $5 of the Truepower i'd go for it. Otherwise, stick with the Truepower.

I noticed that MSY also sell the Soprano with the PSU, and also sell the TruPower. ANd the prices there are generally cheaper, so I'm going to email them about the PSU.I also plan to buy the WolfClaw Keyboard, the Logitech G5, floppy drive, D-Link 624 SuperG Router, a wireless card. And I also need a monitor, lcd or crt i am not sure yet. Hopefully they can give me a discount:)

FINALLY found some (albeit very, very little) info on the 430W PSU that comes with the Thermaltake Soprano. The +12V rail is rated for 18A. This should be sufficient to power your system, (i've powered my system with a +12V & 15A generic 400W PSU) even though it won't leave much upgrade headroom.

So if you want to get the Soprano with the PSU it should work. If anyone feels differently, PLEASE post.

Thanks very much for that information. It was giving me such a headache. But if anyone else has anything else to say. Go ahead. I'll post my parts again:
MSI 915P Neo2
Kinston 1 gig (not sure of timings)
Intel Pentium 4 3.0 775 (Processor 630)
Xfx 6600GT pci-e 128mb
maxtor sata 80gigs

Hmm

Actually if it truly has 18A on the 12V, then I would get a better PSU. I would be shooting for at least 30A on the 12V in terms of stability and future upgradability. Hwoever, that's just my preference. I powered my current PC at 14A on the 12V rail, but the voltages would fluctuate a lot which cannot be good for the PC. I should also mention that the PSU is history...it died on me. My new PSU does the trick.

Thankyou for your input.

Does anyone else have anything to say about whether I should use the psu which comes with the case or get the Antec TruePower?

My friend has the same case, i've just sent him an email to confirm the amperage on the +12V rail. For the record, he's powering:

AMD Athlon 3000+ (939 pin)
ATI Radeon 9600Pro
1GB RAM
200GB HDD
2 optical drives

ok, thanks

OK, he still hasn't replied, but he said he would in the near future. This is copied from Muse_Me's signature (Hope you don't mind, Muse_Me):

CPU: AMD Sempron 3100+ Oc'd to 3400+ (2.0GHz 1776HTT)
RAM:1GB Dual Channel DDR400
HDD: Seagate 120GB HDD IDA ATA100 7,200RPM
DVD: NEC Black Combo Drive
PSU: Thermaltake 430w PSU +12@18A
GPU: eVGA 6800GS AGP
MOB: Abit KV-80
MISC: 6 Logisys 80mm UV Purple Cold Cathode UV reactive Pink fans, 4 Logisys 12" UV Purple Cold Cathode Lights, UV Blue Rounded IDE Cables, Vantec IceBurq GPU cooler, Powmax Case with purple lights on the front
Aquamark3 - 57,786

I can only guess that that's the same PSU that comes in the case, and if his computer is running fine with that PSU, i'm sure yours would as well. More opinions would still be nice, though.

Hmmm, thanks. I will be buying the parts shortly (mum wants me to finish all myholiday hw first)then i'll be buying them. I'll probably get the antec just to be safe.
