Which Raid settings are worthwhile?

Please forgive my ignorance as I am just starting to learn to build comps.I was looking at the stickies section raid101 and noticed all the Different Raid settings, are all those needed or practical?Do you just need Raid0 and Raid1 and which of those 2 work best?

It depends on what you are looking for. RAID1 will give you drive failure protection while RAID0 will increase performance for certain tasks but there's an increased chance of failure.

For most home users, I wouldn't recomend RAID

What are you going to be using this computer for? How much storage space do you need? They make hard drives with 690 gigabytes of storage space currently.

I only have two 74.5 gigabyte hard drives and I don't even think I am using more than 30 gigabytes of storage space.

Heavy gaming and light multimedia.I probably dont need a lot of storage but I may just get 2 drives so I have backup of files but I always thought if you had more than 1 Hd you had to have some kind of Raid setup.

Nope, as other posters said, you definately don't need to raid if you have multiple drives, and I wouldn't recommend doing so either.

Hard drives are very cheap, you can pick up a 500GB for about $80usd, and on down the line. Many people that are into media stuff like to have a smaller drive for operating system(s) and software, etc. Then having a larger drive or multiple drives for media storage. Depends on what you already have I guess. Bottom line: I wouldn't use Raid, and do really whatever you'd like number and size wise.
