1. Muskin Redline DDR2-1000 PC-8000 4-5-4-11
2. OCZ VX2 Titanium Alpha DDR2-1000 PC-8000 4-4-4-15

Please try to judge, not soley on past experiences with each company but the specs of these.

I love my OCZ, much more reliable and generally better at overclocking. However the mushkin do have slightly better timings, but OCZ is a better RAM brand in my opionion, so #2.

I would go with the Muskin Redline due to to it's lower timings, and if 34erd is correct, it also has better quality memory chips.

I definatley agree. Mushkin memory is great memory.

What makes you think that memory with a higher Cycle Time is better then one with a slightly higher RAS# to CAS# timing?
Latencies only make a big difference in games, and those latencies are so close together it won't make a noticable difference.

Omega, have you ever played with timings? I mean, seriously played with timings? I have. For hours and hours and hours.

When you are talking fractions of a millisecond, those numbers mean absolutely NOTHING. Do you realize the difference they make in benchmarks even? RAS to CAS doesn't do jack. You might gain a couple of points, but when you are talking 5,000 + points, 10 points means squat.

The only timing that makes any difference at all, and even then it isn't huge, is the CAS latency. It's so minimal it is hardly worth bothering with.

So, in benchmarks you might gain a couple of points. But any computer tech worth his salt, that knows anything about computers WHATSOEVER, knows that benchmarks don't mean jack unless you're some little tool that hangs out at mad onion's forums. What matters is actual performance, and you will notice little to no actual improvement, certainly not with RAS to CAS.

Besides, there are a few other factors involved here as well, ie can the CPU -> mem controller -> RAM handle it? Not all combinations can. I've played with those too, with much frustration.

Well, if they are both pretty much the same, then should I get whatever's cheaper? (By the way, the Muskin's cheaper by about $40)

You could, but OCZ is higher quality ram and includes a LIFETIME WARRANTY.
Really? I'm willing to bet under those heatspreaders is the exact same PCB. And Mushkin has a lifetime warrenty also.

The stock timings may be higher or lower but both those sets will OC to around the same speed at the same timings. Although really if your looking for Micron D9 you can just get this.
