Which route should I go?

Hi Everyone,

I wanted to know what route I should go with my computer. I was wondering if I should buy a liquid cooler (corsair http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...corsair_liquid_cooling-_-35-181-090-_-Product

or If I should spend 400 dollars to upgrade to a i5 skylake.

My case is this . http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811147107

and I was wondering if I could use this liquid cooler. I read on the internet you can easily OC this to 3.5 if not 4 Ghz.

I have never overclocked so I am a bit worried. lol the only reason I want to do this is for the tomb raider game and I have to update my signature because I got a GTX 960

Thanks guys!

If you upgrade to Skylake, you will need a new motherboard and likely new RAM (vast majority use DDR4). Personally I would not invest in water cooling. Do you have the stock cooler? You can get a decent air cooler for $30-$50 that would net you a great overclock.

Hey Geoff,

Yeah I realize I would need the new motherboard ram and CPU.

I do have a stock cooler. If I use an aftermarket cooler, how much could I overclock?

Thanks!

The difference between a high end air cooler and the budget pre-built water coolers is pretty narrow, a cooler like the Noctua NH-D15 actually performs better then those kits. Since you are new to overclocking, most likely you would simply raise the multiplier assuming you get a K-series CPU, I wouldn't recommend changing voltages until you become experienced with it. As long as you are just raising the multiplier you should get a decent overclock out of it.
